Teleseminars are an effective and inexpensive way for nonfiction authors to promote their books and other products and services. Using a free or low-cost teleseminar service, the host sets up a "bridge line" for participants to dial into at the appointed time, and then does an educational presentation over the telephone.
Teleseminars can be conducted by a single speaker, or done in a Q&A format between a host and one or more expert speakers. A webinar or webcast is similar to a teleseminar, but participants are able to view an online PowerPoint presentation or other visuals.
Many teleseminars are designed to share information on a topic at no charge, while promoting a related book, product or service. The best events are packed with useful information, rather than containing mostly fluff and sales pitches. Another approach is to conduct a paid teleseminar with more in-depth information.
Here are some of the benefits to attendees:
- It's easy for participants to attend via their phone or computer, with no travel required.
- Often a recording of the session is available afterward for those who are not available during the time of the call.
- Most teleseminars have a question and answer session, allowing audience members to participate and get input from the speaker.
- Participants can learn a lot in a short period of time.
There are also a number of benefits to the host:
- Teleseminars are free or very low cost to produce.
- There's no travel required and you can conduct the event from the comfort of your home or office.
- It's a great way to build your reputation as an expert in your field and to build your mailing list with the names of the attendees.
- Hosts make money by charging for the teleseminar or up-selling free teleseminar attendees to a paid product.
