8 Reasons Authors Should Write Book Reviews
by Nick Daws
As authors we all know how important it is to get our books reviewed on Amazon and other websites/blogs, but there are many benefits to reviewing other people's books as well. Here are just a few . . .
- Reviews of interesting books will be enjoyed and valued by readers of your blog.
- Reviews will also attract new visitors who are searching for information about the book in question.
- You can earn commissions from your blog reviews through Amazon Associates and/or other affiliate programs. Readers of your review may also click on your AdSense ads.
- Reviewing books is great for developing relationships with the authors of the books you review. And, of course, if you review their book, they are more likely to want to review yours.
- Your review comments (and a link to your review) may be posted on the author's blog or website, generating more publicity for you.
- The author may publicize your review in other ways as well - e.g. via Twitter and Facebook - giving you further exposure to their readers/followers.
- Posting reviews on Amazon of books that appeal to the same target market as your own books will gives you extra visibility on this very important site.
- Last but not least, if you become known as someone who is willing and able to review books, you will be offered a steady stream of free and interesting reading material!

Hi Nick & Dana,
There's another reason to do reviews - marketing and name recognition in your genre - and you can learn from the authors if you review within genre.
I have started a new blog for book reviews which I do on video in order to have my name and my book linked to bigger name authors - so my video review ranks on Google pg 1 for thriller novel as well as Carte Blanche Jeffrey Deaver and more.
It is a long term strategy because video search is only growing but I am seeing the payoff already
Thanks, Joanna
