The dawn of a new year always fills me with anticipation for the possibilities that lie ahead.
This is the ideal time to think about your goals as an author, what you want to accomplish, and how to get from here to there. Here are some questions to consider:
- Do you have a written book marketing plan?
- Do you understand who is the target market for your book and how to reach those people?
- Have your prioritized your promotional activities so that you're devoting most of your time to those actions that have the highest chance of success?
- Do you need to learn more about the publishing business or learn new skills in marketing?
- Which promotional activities are working well for you, what doesn't work so well, and why?
- Are you managing your time well, or spending a lot of time web surfing or doing things that have a low return on your investment of time?
- Do you take action on the things that you learn about book promotion, or just continue to seek more ideas, looking for the "magic bullet" for selling more books?
- Do you schedule time every day (even if it's just 10 minutes) to promote your book?
I encourage everyone to spend some time this month to develop or refine your book marketing plan and schedule promotional activities for this year. To learn more about how to create your book marketing plan, download my free report: Create a Book Marketing Plan That Sells Books.
I wish each of you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!
Re: Giving my time to those things that have the most potential of success--wish I knew which ones those were. Last year I spent a lot of time on things that should have worked but didn't.
