Congratulations to Mark Coker and the team at Smashwords, who celebrated their four-year anniversary by announcing the released of their 100,000th ebook.
"Four years ago, ebooks represented 1% of the U.S. book market and self-publishing was viewed as the option of last resort for failed authors,” said Mark Coker, founder of Smashwords, based in Los Gatos, Calif. “Today ebooks are approaching 30% of the market and self-publishing has become the option of first choice for thousands of authors. Indie ebook authors enjoy faster time to market, higher net royalties, global distribution, greater creative control, and the ability to reach more readers – more profitably – with lower cost books."
